Bursting with color and natural beauty, all of the colors of the rainbow are here in the two birthday bouquet arrangements I designed – one for delivery in San Marcos and one as an early birthday gift to myself.
While I was pulling all of the flowers I wished for at Mayesh in Carlsbad, my heart was feeling over-the-top happy, and with that overjoyed, in-love feeling! It seems crazy because it is. It’s just hard to put into words how it is to feel this happy and excited, to have plunged in doing exactly what I want to do. My daughter was in school, and it didn’t stop me from sending her a little video with my choices. It was like a dream to have them in the comforts of home, and to get to work with them as real work for my just-started floral design business.
Another birthday gift to myself today, on this very day of me turning 43, is having this post as my official launch of my new branding and blog of Glorified Hobby. I did the best I could, and I’m happy to call this little space my new home. I’ve updated five years of content. I have the links all set. Mili’s Sweets and Glorified Hobby menu and details are all here now. I’m honestly thrilled and relieved to have completed this small goal.
What a year it has felt like for me! It has been wonderful. It has been humbling. I’m in a very content, full-of-love place with life, and who I am as a woman/wife/daughter/friend, and especially as a mom – which is honestly the most challenging part of my life because of the world that surrounds my children. My kids are honestly the best of the best.
What I have been given as gifts in the people around me, and in the gifts of what I’m capable of accomplishing – blow my mind. I am feeling beyond-blessed and grateful. All right. Let’s get back to celebrating these insanely gorgeous blossoms!
Because I’m a floral design novice and true lover of flowers, I’m sharing all of the angles, and even labeling the flowers that I’m using for these arrangements that were set to be delivered the first week of June.
I’m learning about flowers and this “glorified hobby” as I go and I thought it would be cool to share what I’m learning with you too. As I post to the blog, I’m also pinning my images onto my board on Pinterest, so you can always reference what I’m up to there as well.
Within this first birthday arrangement that was set to be delivered, I used everything I purchased a day beforehand. I had the whole list in here, with main, big blossoms placed toward the center. I used no foam, just loose placement in a vase with water. Peony in Athena Salmon and Tree Yellow, Purple Allium stems, and Dahlias in Magenta and toward one bottom side, I grouped three calla lillies together.
Smaller filler and floral reaching out to the sides included: Geranium greenery, Tweedia Blue, and pink wax flowers. All of these had lovely, different stems and greenery that not only filled the arrangement, but also added different textures. The goal I believe I accomplished was as much joy as possible, being represented in bunch of natural color.
For the second arrangement, I used less blossoms and everything except for the wax flower. This was the one I kept as an early birthday gift to myself. Here are the labels for this one:
The number three is like a silent prayer when represent three of one flower type in each of my arrangements. You’ll notice that I always add three hearts at the end of my posts too. In these two bouquets, I chose to group three Cala Lillies together.
It was amazing to watch as the flowers bloomed before my very eyes! Once flowers come out of a refrigerated space, (where a flower’s life is practically stopped and time stands still) time starts again.
While I was taking photos of this arrangement, the outrageous beauty of the Tree Yellow Peony was literally bursting. It was amazing. I had to call my kids in to come see!
By the next day, with the arrangement I had kept for myself, we had ourselves a totally bloomed Peony!
All on it’s own, it reminds me of a most beautiful sunset. Maybe I’m overly sappy over things I love . . . that’s just me. I enjoyed every single moment with these flowers.
When asked what my favorite flower is, I keep jumping from Dahlia to Peony. It was dreamy to have both here!
Thank you for being here to celebrate this post as the launch of my updated blog, and my birthday!
Love and big hugs,
