This August, the Del Mar Skyrooms were transformed into a “Day at the Races, “themed Amalfi Coast, Italy.
This floral production is a site to behold! After all these years of working alongside her, I’m still so proud and astonished by Karen’s master-floristry and the end-result. I can hardly get over her planning and organization, number of stems and flowers, and sheer amount of hands this event took to fulfill. My son and I were onsite as assistants. I captured all of the photos shared on this post, as the biggest and best floral showcase I personally witnessed all year.

I’m highlighting only segments of the work on this amazing day at the races. My initial video post on social media can be found on Instagram or TikTok.
Step Inside
Seabiscuit and Native Diver Skyrooms of the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club Racetrack were connected with both upper and lower deck tables, on August 10, 2024, in an event annually hosted by the Johnsen family.
The guest entry arch was the final touch to our work and installations for the day.
To the righthand side, find the Heritage Desserts cake on display, atop one of the Vespas, and surrounded by overflowing florals in Italian-inspired ceramics, with baskets, topiaries, oranges, lemons.
upper deck Table Top
A total of twelve Enticing Tables table-top ladder bridges, plus one floor-standing ladder bridge were placed at the upper deck tables.
Above-head florals were segmented to be styled slightly different – some with oranges and bougainvillea alongside Italian-inspired greenery, white roses, and blue hydrangea – all with iconic lemons hanging down to speak to the Amalfi Coast.
Lower Level
The lower deck was cleaner and uniform, to keep the large windows without obstacles for viewing the races. The color scheme in white, blue and yellow popped for summertime. These compote size centerpieces were gorgeous.
Patio
The arch and table display on the patio upgraded a typical buffet-table setup.
At the very tip-end of the event, was a cherry on top: my favorite Vespa floral display.
This was my best shot of the day, overlooking the Del Mar coast.
