Cameron and Josh had a beautiful and pandemic-appropriate December wedding in 2020, that made for a special memory for me as well. It would be my final order for the year of delivering desserts as Mili’s Sweets, and it would be the very first wedding arrangements I would ever be hired to create via my small business as Glorified Hobby.
My dear friend Claire, hired and trusted me to create my first (paid) bridal hand-bouquet. I loved every moment of this work. Working with flowers is one of my favorite things.
The wedding cutting-cake was made to match the florals. A simple and clean Caramel Apple, with smooth vanilla buttercream and a cascade to one side and small gathering to the top of the other. I love the balance and the variety of flowers I was able to select to make this happen.
This opportunity of a small floral order with lots of care and attention, gave me the confidence to be able to do more of this work in the years to come. I don’t want to stop doing this. I only want to grow to build upon what I have learned so far, with hands-on experience.
My first floral project would be the bride’s hand bouquet, because it is the most important aspect of wedding florals. I want it to be the fullest and have the most-choice florals, so I put this together first.
As I worked, I set aside choice floral pieces as clippings for the cake, and separate my inventory for two equal and abundant table arrangements.
The centerpiece arrangements were delivered the next morning for the ceremony, without vases, as they would have two set at their small, family-sized celebration.
I wasn’t sure what the groom would like to wear, I created two small boutonnieres for him to choose from. One featuring a Spray Rose with Wax flowers. The other featured a small bunch of Astrantia. Both had two types of Eucalyptus simply tied together.
Aside from the bride’s hand-bouquet, I considered the wedding cake the second most important aspect of my work for this day. It requires the most planning and time, and as a centerpiece, it is something that will be photographed and remembered, so I want it to be as special as possible and with the best florals possible.
I love sourcing and selecting the flowers for my work, so that I can have control to find the highest quality and placing them front-and-center as part of a memory that I help to create.
From the moment I unpacked these roses, I had my eye on this heart-shaped blossom. I set it aside and refrigerated it with a bunch of others, so that it would be preserved as it is for delivery.
For the side-cascade, I was asked to make it bountiful and incorporate the look and feel of the arrangements. I used everything on this 6″ cutting cake, except for Protea.
I decided that this custom cake would be my last order for this strange and difficult year for my small business. It was a joy and a wonderful way to wrap up my work until 2021.
Thank you for being here. I appreciate you, and look forward to sharing more in my down time over the holidays, as I relax and recharge at home, and with my family.
Congratulations Pierce Family!
Take care,
