The grounds of the Rancho Guajome Adobe in Vista, California, are lovely in late-April. The garden area was bursting with sunshine and blooming plants – making for the perfect back-drop for a special dessert table, along with a delightfully yellow cutting-cake.
I used natural elements to create a more rustic look. The burlap runner placed by the bride was a nice touch with wood and metal plating. The gray, center cake stand was her piece, as was the line of crystal decor. Since there were a modest number of cupcakes, I used larger plating pieces and placed the cupcakes to have a nice balance, taking up the entire six foot table.
The bride asked that the cake be covered in vanilla butter cream, with an ombre pattern. I chose to have smooth frosting, so that the gradient was subtle and the floral arrangement could be the highlight of the cake. I piped small buttercream ‘leaves’ at the top and bottom of the cake.
I used floral tape to wrap a fresh white Dahlia and yellow Craspedia poms and brought extra flowers from this arrangement to place in the small vases on the table, so that everything would tie-in together.
