Pineapple Upside Down Cake is a comfort-food tradition. I have enjoyed this cake for many years, and I’m happy to share my own recipe and version: a delicious, tender-crumb, not-too-sweet-cake that I bake for my customers, and at home for my family. We enjoy this on special occasions, or when we need a little something to brighten our day.
crisp and clear dessert table, at Tivoli
Mili’s Sweets was hired to set Connie and Corbin’s wedding cake and dessert table at Tivoli Italian Villa – tucked into the beautiful hills of Fallbrook, California. We went with all crisp and clear pieces to set their dessert table, where guests would patiently wait to enjoy their custom menu.
orange-cranberry King Cake
At home, we love orange-cranberry King Cake, also know as Three Kings Cake and Rosca de Reyes. My recipe version of this tradition is a glazed orange-cranberry sweet bread.
Italian Ricotta Cheesecake
Iconic Italian Ricotta Cheesecake recipe. Details I love about this incredibly dynamic and delicious Cheesecake recipe: the texture, overall flavor, spongy-bite, fragrance, and memories this makes.
The Nielsens 10.01.21

Brûlée on Orange-Zest French Toast
Orange zest and juice help to make this French Toast recipe absolutely delicious. Using a torch to brûlée, will make an unforgettable breakfast! French Toast happens to hold a special place in my heart. I tend to serve it one special days, and when I’m in the mood to make breakfast on a weekend. (Each time I told my husband I was pregnant, I did so while serving him french toast.) So let’s see about making this super-simple, and next-level recipe that tastes amazing, with or without a torch.
Sunset at Cape Rey
It was sunset on Friday, when Jackie and Chris celebrated their wedding at Cape Rey, in Carlsbad. Mili’s Sweets was chosen to set and cater their custom cake and desserts, and I debuted some of the acrylic pieces we added to our options, to create a crisp and beautiful display for our dessert tables.
my wedding cakes: single tier and beautifully-unstacked
After all these years in dessert catering, I still feel that wedding cakes are my most exciting and fulfilling work. I’m happy to focus on the creativity and confidence I have with only offering my personal-joy in cakes that are single-tier, and beautifully-unstacked. To me, a wedding cake is like a separate little treasure and memory, so making them taste amazing with custom-flavors on the inside, is just as important as making them unique or simply beautiful on the outside.
worth the wait: a peek at our first on-site catered event of 2021
In June, we catered a dessert table that made-up for some lost time.
I know a wonderful Italian mother – my friend and client since the beginning of Mili’s Sweets – that truly lives her culture and love of sharing an abundance. She naturally makes others feel comfortable about enjoying every moment of her generosity. It shines through in the work she asked of me for her family’s bridal shower.
food, flowers, and best friends – for Nonna’s 78th birthday
We celebrated Nonna’s 78th birthday with good food, pretty flowers, and best friends. This was the first time we hosted a gathering at home since the 2019 holiday-season, so we wanted to make it count to honor and cherish my incredible mom. Maria Rosaria is literally the kindest and most selfless person I’ve ever known, and we are fortunate to get to celebrate her.
Burgundy Pepper Tri Tip
My recipe for Burgundy Pepper Tri Tip is based on personal research and testing to crack-the-code on the secret marinade recipe for Seaside Market’s legendary Tri-Tip: what San Diego locals refer to as “Cardiff Crack.” This is so good, and so easy! Here I share all the details for the awesome marinade, roast-prep, and baking instructions.
blueberry pie filling
Blueberry pie filling, because we love blueberries! With a few simple ingredients, we bring out the natural flavor and intense color of this beautiful berry. Pie filling is my first-step to making all the blueberry treats: pies, tarts, muffins, cake, ice cream, scones, pancakes, cheesecake… I’ll stop there. Let’s make this happen!
