I’m sharing some of the joyful Thanksgiving florals and pies I created, to kickstart our holiday season with a full spread for family at home.
Over the last week or so, I took time off work to deep-clean, plan, take care things for my loved-ones, try to catch up on some much-needed rest, and prepare for all of the cooking we were set to accomplish, and set lovely tables for us. I couldn’t wait to get my hands on some gorgeous and special flowers!
Metal “pin frog” holders in shallow bowls were used to create matching centerpieces for our two dining tables. These help for a more minimalist flow, are great for the environment because of re-use, and work especially well when you’re not transporting the finished product.
These small arrangements were flanked by taper candles in hurricane shades, and bud bases.
There was a little pocket folded into our napkins for magnolia leaf at each setting, to match the wreath I made for our entrance.
With the help of a re-used base, and my trusty glue gun, I made the magnolia-leaf wreath a couple days in advance, and let it discolor naturally. It’s still beautiful! I love the brown and green contrast.
I made two larger arrangements to be placed in other spaces at home, using the same recipe, with small pedestal vessels.
Instead of ordering flowers in advance, I chose what was available, with the goal of bright and juicy color, and a nod to fall with some warmth. I did get yellow, Bartzella Peonies but the died before I could use them. The giant and stunning pink Buckeye Belles took up the space, as they tend to do. (Love them!)
Flower Recipe: “Cold Brew” Roses, Peony, French Marigold, Clemantis, Mums, Chrysanthemums, Lusianthus, Rose Creek Abelia, Italian Ruscus, Magnolia leaves
You can take a peek at the full food-spread we made for Thanksgiving, with my reel on Instagram. Our son had all of his wisdom teeth removed on Monday, and my mom had a small medical procedure done the day before, so both of them were on the mend. Bless their hearts – they still had a wonderful day! I’m grateful for their health.
We did not mess around with pie-time! The Noëls brought an Apple-Cranberry pie. (It was delicious and tart!) That gave us a total of seven.
Here is my Cherry, Blackberry, Blueberry, Apple Crumble – quite literally a mouthful! This is my take and version of our favorite from the Julian Pie Company. This may be my best and favorite crumble-pie I’ve ever made.
Blueberry-Orange is my recipe for blueberry pie, made with orange juice and orange zest, with a top crust set with an orange-glaze, that was brushed on after baking. This was a beautiful and surprising. I messed up with too-thin of a lattice, so a basic do-over to cover it was the best possible outcome. I love the way this pie turned out and will do this on purpose the next time.
Other pies on the menu: Nonna’s Apple Pie (2), and Classic Pumpkin Pie (2)
2022 has all-around been one of the busiest years in our family lives, and it was nice to celebrate it with a delicious and satisfying meal together. I feel beyond-blessed and fortunate to have had this day at home with my loved ones. I hope you had a wonderful day too! Happy Holidays!
