In June, we catered a dessert table that made-up for some lost time.
I know a wonderful Italian mother – my friend and client since the beginning of Mili’s Sweets – that truly lives her culture and love of sharing an abundance. She naturally makes others feel comfortable about enjoying every moment of her generosity. It shines through in the work she asked of me for her family’s bridal shower.
Anne selected a full menu of desserts that would kick-start a long and personal quiet time, to propel me back into the swing of things for my business. The feeling of hope and excitement was overflowing from the moment she called to hire me. It was a first step into the beginning of a very busy season that I’m not sure when will pause, and I’m beyond grateful.
This is such an exciting time for so many. I’m certain that the feeling was mutual for the family. Now they knew that wedding-dreams would finally be coming true, and this shower had to be well worth the wait. Her son, and soon-to-be daughter in-law had their 2020 wedding placed on-hold because of the pandemic. When event restrictions were lifting in late-spring of this year, it was time for the gorgeous bridal shower she hosted at Vista Valley Country Club to come to fruition. This day in June would be the very first on-site event that I would be able to fulfill with my team in 2021 – a total of fifteen months after my last possible catering-opportunity (in March of 2020).
It is fun to look back on a little more than six weeks ago, (although it feels like months have gone by) and highlight some of the small-batch work we created for the lovely ladies in attendance that afternoon.
Shades of pink were sprinkled into the desserts. I love the hue of pale blush for the custom chocolate covered strawberries. These may be my favorite yet (and I have dipped a LOT of strawberries)!
Classic Cannoli were all filled with our signature Italian Custard, one side half-dipped in white chocolate with a maraschino cherry, and the other side half-dipped in dark chocolate with mini chocolate chips.
I would also chocolate-dip a portion of the vanilla biscotti.
There was so much to enjoy on this banquet-sized dessert table that had access on all sides. There were trifles, mini cupcakes, cookies, bars, brownies, cheesecakes, and more. I didn’t take photos of everything we made for this day, but we were pleased to completely fill the table with 500 servings in-total.

Every single dessert was enjoyed. I received messages and notes from the ladies in attendance and it made my heart really happy. I feel so fortunate to get to do this work, and for the nicest people in town!
This event, led to other event bookings, and future work. Nothing beats word of mouth, combined with having potential clients present to taste and see our work. I do have confidence and hope, as I plan ahead for my 12th year of doing business of Mili’s Sweets.
Thank you for being here, and for supporting my small business.
