whipped cream cheese frosting

Adding cream cheese as a base provides stability and a creamier texture to whipped cream frosting, that holds up with more stability and does not taste "too sweet."
Recipe versions for flavors in vanilla, chocolate, berry, and sugar free/no sugar added.
This is a naturally gluten free recipe.
Make this using a hand mixer, or a standing mixer with a whisk attachment.

Ingredients

vanilla whipped cream cheese frosting

  • 2 ounces cold cream cheese
  • 4 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 cups heavy whipping cream

chocolate whipped cream cheese frosting

  • 2 ounces cold cream cheese
  • 4 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa For a lighter, milk-chocolate flavor, use 2 tablespoons. For dark chocolate flavor, use up to 1/4 cup. (I'm using Guittard brand, Dutch process.)
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 cups heavy whipping cream

berry whipped cream cheese frosting

  • 2 ounces cold cream cheese
  • 4 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract (optional)
  • 1 cups heavy whipping cream
  • 1/3 cup prepared berries ideas: fresh raspberries, finely chopped fresh strawberry skins, or dark sweet cherries or blueberries that first frozen and thawed

sugar free whipped cream cheese frosting

  • 2 ounces cold cream cheese
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar (optional)
  • 1 cups heavy whipping cream
  • 1/2 cup fresh raspberries

Instructions

vanilla

  • Whisk cream cheese until it covers the bottom of the bowl.
  • Add sugar and vanilla extract. Whisk and scrape the bowl.
  • Add heavy whipping cream. Whisk until begins to peak. Scrape the bowl.
  • Whisk until fully peaked. Pipe or plop onto your favorite treat.

chocolate

  • Whisk cream cheese until it covers the bottom of the bowl.
  • Add sugar, vanilla extract, and unsweetened cocoa. Whisk and scrape the bowl.
  • Add heavy whipping cream. Whisk until begins to peak. Scrape the bowl.
  • Whisk until fully peaked. Pipe or plop onto your favorite treat.

berry

  • prep: For any berry other than raspberry, you need to chop as finely as possible. For strawberry, use fresh and the skins only. For blueberry or cherry, I recommend using the first-frozen fruit because the sweetness tastes more concentrated. Allow the fruit to thaw so that the fruit it is still cold.
  • Whisk cream cheese until it covers the bottom of the bowl. Add sugar. Whisk and scrape the bowl.
  • Add heavy whipping cream. Whisk until begins to peak. Scrape the bowl.
  • Add berries. Whisk until fully peaked. Pipe or plop onto your favorite treat.

sugar free

  • Whisk cream cheese until it covers the bottom of the bowl.
  • Add cream of tartar, the heavy whipping cream, and vanilla if using.
  • Whisk until begins to peak. Scrape the bowl.
  • Add fresh raspberries. Whisk until fully peaked. Pipe or plop onto your favorite treat.
