This recipe takes me back to my childhood. Being raised as a first-generation American in a great big Italian family, meant there were many old-country recipes being cooked and baked around me at all times. If it’s possible to duplicate or…
Italian hands make frittelle: traditional fry-bread
I’m sharing an all-time favorite recipe post: making Frittelle. Here, I document my mom making a traditional Italian treat from her hometown, typically enjoyed special occasions like Christmas Eve, New Year’s Eve.
There are many versions of frittelle. Most of them found and scattered all over Italy are small and served as a donut or a fritter. This is the original. I’m sharing the recipe from the tiny town of Tricarico, Italy, where my mom was born and raised. It’s actually known for inventing this food which is a fry-bread and peasant-food, made as the best that could be done to celebrate on Christmas Eve for many families. It was so delicious that it caught on and neighboring towns would develop their own takes on the treat. Generations of Italians have made their own versions of frittelle, based on where and how their family was raised. I’m so happy to share this with my small world.

dreamy whipped cream
Once you make whipped cream from scratch, there’s no going back. It’s an absolute dream!I’m sharing my recipe for one of the best and simplest things you’ll make with a standing mixer, and it will take less than 2 minutes to complete. Whipped cream was the first thing I tried to make when I received a standing mixer as a wedding gift. (My 4.5 quart Kitchen Aid kept up the good work after 12 years of heavy use. I even used it in this post.

baby’s breath and big moments
Our sweet boy had his First Holy Communion. It was definitely one of those best, big-moments that we will never forget. There was so much joy in this day, that I could post a hundred photos of smiling faces. Instead, I’ll focus on some of the details for our small celebration at home.

campfire cookies – s’mores with fresh baked chocolate chip cookies
There was a time when graham crackers were a mandatory part of s’mores. Since replacing them with freshly-baked chocolate chip cookies, there is no turning back. I made Campfire Cookies as a surprise-treat for my sweethearts. They are not going to…

Vanilla meringue is one of those unique dessert toppings that tastes so lovely and simply made. It is not too sweet, but ultra light and fluffy. It looks beautiful. It’s easy to make. We need it for Lemon Meringue pies and cakes. Bonus: we get to use a kitchen torch!
